Wakanda Forever! ( Black Panther: Review)

I have seen black panther 3 time’s now and I feel I can finally give a good judgement on the film and well to put it bluntly this film is one of the best superhero films ever made easily in marvels top 3 films. The movie hits every note it needed to hit this is truly a sign that the marvel movie universe is not going anywhere soon, if it can still produce new films based on new characters and still make the audicne feel something new and different each time it just shows that this film company will be around for years after some of the characters have died off.

The film is nice origin story of sorts given us a look at the technology marvel that is wakanda, a hidden African nation that is well advanced compaired to the rest of the world. The film follows of course the black panther Prince t’challa and his rise to become king and protector of wakanda. We see a excellent performance from Chadwick boseman who is the perfect for the role. The stand outs aside the interesting story and the power struggle within in the nation including the political connotations of the African country and that of the racial aspects that are hit on is that of the kings sister shuri who is the master of all the tech she has some importance to play in the future of the MCU also that of m’baku he will defiantly become a strong fan favourite in the years to come.

The great thing about this film is this is a marvel film which nails the villain Micheal b Jordan’s role as Eric killmonger is perfect a strong villain with a clear motive and also interesting back ground marvel have really exceeded them selves with this character.

The film is excellent from start to finish if they was one problem it was that sometimes the human didn’t hit the way you felt like the film makers wanted it to, but that is small fry problems compared to the film as a whole.

How to answer questions by making more questions – a J.J Abrahams master class. (The Cloverfield Paradox: Review) ★★★★

So during the super bowl a trailer dropped for a film no one expected to arrive yet, it was for the cloverfield paradox a new instalment in the mysterys monster/sci-fi franchise. It went straight to Netflix if anything this is the start of a new way to market a film, this film would of possibly bombed at the box office due to its strange history, but because it dropped straight to Netflix millions of people have now watched it and most likely made the company more money then it would of if it had a theatrical release.

The film I really enjoyed, it is a great horror/sci-fi film that keeps you gripped from the start, the story sets up interesting plot points with the idea of different earths ( where’s the flash when you need him) and the concept of other dimensions, given us a slight insight into where these creatures from the famous film from ten years ago came from. The cast is great the stands are the main female lead Gugu Mbatha-Raw, gives a standout performance but you would expect that from her due to the role in black mirror episode San junipero, also Daniel brühl and the comic relief in Chris O’Dowd these three really give a great performance in a film where they could of phoned it in.

The story is really interesting and keeps you gripped to the very end, with both the story on the space station and that of what is happening on the earth. It is paced very well and keeps the tension going without letting up. The only thing I would say could of been improved was I personally wanted to see more of earth the story on earth was good and I feel like there was more to be done but I guess that’s what the first film is for. Very good CGI and story telling. Leaves you with more questions then answers just like the first and second film but I guess that’s why we come back for me every time one of these is realeasd.

Overall this is a very enjoyable film that should be seen as soon as you can.

I Hope The Ride Is Not Over. ( Justice League – Review) ★★★★

justice-league-poster

I have seen this film twice now, and I needed to see it twice to come to my overall score on the film. I am not going to act like this is unbiased because its not I would consider myself a “DC fanboy”, don’t get me wrong Marvel is amazing but DC has always stood out to me more. The characters under the DC comics rooster are so interesting and amazing, from a young age I have been invested in the DC universe, whether that comes from watching the old superman films as a kid with my dad or watching the best animated show ever that of the Justice League and its sequel Justice League unlimited with my brothers the DC comics characters have always been in my life. So you can imagine I was really excited to see this film finally a big screen team up outing from these characters, the film had its problems before it came out with all the behind scenes issues, re shoots and the lower critical response upon release. This film however is another one of those films that splits audience and critic. I REALLY ENJOYED THIS FILM.

The film carry’s on after the events of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, the death of Superman has had an effect on the world for the better and the worse, a rise in crime but a rise in heroes as well, the idea that superman is a beacon is strong in this film. The story carry’s on from this I don’t want to go into to many spoilers but I will hit on a few so if you have not seen it yet stop reading here and come back. The film starts of with Batman being Batman coming face to face with a Parademon the army of the films villain, and we get to see Ben Affleck in this role once again, personally i think he is perfect as Bruce and Batman its a shame it doesn’t seem he feels the same. We are then introduced to wonder women and the rest of the gang : Aquaman, the Flash and that of Cyborg. The whole team is amazing Jason Momoa brings his bad ass nature that just comes naturally to him to the character of Aquaman and finally brings that character of the joke heroes into the cool ones. Ezra Miller as the Flash was genius casting he is the heart of the film, he is us, amazed by everything that’s going on and he has some of the funniness lines in the whole film. Cyborg played by new comer ray fisher is amazing I would love to see more from this character as not enough was touched on in the film but what they set up could be interesting for sequels and standalone films. Wonder Women was amazing once again, you can tell from this that after her films success she has been given the a role that is more of a leadership one.

The films story is a bit paint by numbers but paced very well, theirs no boring moments in the film it flows really nicely, nice action set pieces in which we get to see all the team working together, tension in the group as well as you would expect is up and down which is good story aspect. The Return of character is very well done I would of liked to see a black suit and long hair for Superman’s return but this was good enough with a fight between the members and the bit with the flash made for a very entertaining watch. The only real downside i have with this movie is the villain he isn’t menacing enough and his motives seem to be from a higher place, or form, Steppenwolf after all is the uncle of the big bad of the DC universe Darkside other that some of the cgi is a bit jarring in some scenes but that’s my only downsides to this film.

I would highly recommend this film to anyone who watched the old animated show, or loves the comic book movie genre.

PS: Stick around for those 2 after credits, OMG.

Always Remember to Print Enough Pamphlets: ( Thor Ragnarok – Review) ★★★★★

images (5)

So I saw the third installment in the Thor franchise and I was skeptical as marvel films go the Thor ones are the weakest of the them all. The character is so interesting and impressive but the problem is marvel hasn’t done the best job in finding the right tone and way to do this character. That being said this film is amazing so funny and so fresh, the first 5 mins save the character from becoming a back seat avenger.

The film starts off as it means to go on, with an over the top fight with Thor and Surtur and the quick witted humor that is found throughout the whole film. Thor is no longer just a god that pines over a female ( Jane foster who thankfully isn’t in this film) he is the action heavy character that he should of always been, using his powers and his hammer to take on a horde is perfect feast for the eyes.

The film takes off from here finding out that Hella is related to Thor and Loki and then having to save Asgard but unfortunately winding up in the universes dump. This is where Thor meets the hulk and other characters like that of Korg.  KORG takes this movie he is so funny from the voice and the jokes he comes out will make this your new fav marvel character step aside rocket and groot say hello to korg and miek. Hulk is also so good being portrayed as a spoilt child or young child in general  makes the humor so funny.  Hats of to marvel for bringing the little indie direct Taika Waititi who brings his amazing humor to this character, Chris Hemsworth has never looked better as Thor even with the short hair he really is the god of thunder. Not forgetting Loki who brings together the brotherly rivalry we are used to across the films to the next level.

The film really cant be faulted as its a blend of humor and action from the opening credits to the closing ones, you have to see this film it is amazing it is the best film marvel has done since the winter solider, a masterpiece in superhero story telling.

Umbrellas and Lasso’s: ( Kingsman: The Golden Circle – Review)

images (9)

Last night I went to see the new Kingsmen film, the first film sits highly in my all time favorite films, a real surprise when it hit cinemas bringing back the idea of the gentlemen spy and also throwing in big action and amazing humor it really was a big hit. Therefore I was really hyped at the idea of a second outing for eggsy and co, the golden circle picks up some time after the first one eggsy is now an established member of the Kingsman secret service and all seems to be going well until a mystery organisation known as the Golden circle seems to be hunting down the agents.

The film as a whole is decent opening with a big action car chase, it really sets the tone for the entire film, that’s one thing that carry’s over from the first the fight and action sequences are even better than the first one, the use of music in this film just like the first is key, having a soundtrack that would rival even that of the guardians of the galaxy films. Once again some amazing humor coming from the whole cast over the top swearing really makes this film stand apart from anything else you’ll see this year. The return of a character from the first film as a bionic henchmen was a nice edition to the film and works really well, and the agent known as whisky adds a nice flare in the action sequences.

There are a few down sides however the film suffers from the whole squeal problem, never as good as the first and spends more money but this sort of film doesn’t need to the first had a good formula but this one tries to over do it. Also after the first 20 mins you spend the next 40 mins of the film sitting through loads of exposition, things been told to you that you could work out on your own, really telling you how to suck eggs, especially when the statesmen come into play. The statesmen is good edition and expands the universe of the whole thing but the way they are introduced is executed not all that well. Also without given away any spoilers the celebrity cameo in this goes above and beyond and by the end of it you hope he just fucks off, sorry man you know who you are its not your fault.

Overall the film is great it does not live up to the first film but is still a very good watch. If not slightly slow in places the action and the whole universe makes up for it.

I Would Not Hire This Clown For a Kids Party: ( IT – Review)

images (8)

Now I saw IT with the Mrs the other night, now I would like to point out we watch a horror film once every other night ( we are just odd like that ), you would assume that would make me somewhat a horror fan, so when IT came out I was game to see it. Secretly however I was, for a better word SHITTING IT ( pun intended ) I hate clowns, no matter where they are I hate them they creep me the fuck out. IT is one of the best films of 2017.

This film is amazing, creepy and funny a perfect blend, comedic elements to level out the scares. Bill Skarsgaud as Pennywise the clown is the perfect casting a really creepy and scary portrayal of the famous Stephen King horror creation, the voice is something that truly sticks with you the way it sounds is scary in its self, the look of Pennywise is different to that of the 1990 Portrayal by Tim Curry, instead of looking like your average clown it looks more like something out of a folktale. The cast is amazing all the young actors deserve such praise for there performances, one standout performance is that of Finn Wolfhard ( Richie Tozier ) who adds such a funny comedic element to parallel that of Pennywise, with a line like “Derry was started as a beaver trading camp.” “Still is, am I right, boys?” the other cast members all have their moments in the film and that is one of the reasons you have to see this film, Finn is just the standout.

So many scenes stick with you after the film is over, the opening sequence with Georgie, with IT in the sewers is the best start to a film you’ll see this year, and also when one of the kids is getting beaten up by some bully’s he sees IT in the tall grass eating a human hand and then waving it in a funny manor.

The only real downside to this film is that it ends, you want more as soon as you leave, hats of to the director for doing this.

You have to see this film in the cinema don’t just waiting until its out on DVD seeing this is a crowded cinema really added to the horror and the overall enjoyment of the film.

“You’ll Float Too”

Jax Teller and Sons of the Round table (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword)

king_arthur_legend_of_the_sword_ver2_xlg.jpg

So I saw the new Guy Ritchie version of King Arthur, and its every thing you would expect, it is a typical Ritchie film with witty lad banter and great action set pieces.

The story follows a street version of Arthur a bit of a hard man gangster type, which I thought was a cool way of portraying a over done character follow the way with the mages the human stronghold falls to the control of Arthur’s uncle, then baby Arthur is pushed down river and raised by the women of a brothel, he grows up to be headstrong and liked by everyone, until the sword in the stone revels its self and he realizes he is the born king.

Charlie Human was the prefect casting of Arthur for this tale, the film has epic action sequences from the beginning, and the banter between the characters is amazing, the slow mo action shots make some of the fight scenes even more impactful. Jude law plays a convincing villain who you really doe grow to hate during the film.

The only few downsides is the film is a bit long, theirs a couple of places where it could of ended before it does so feels like some scenes are dragging towards the middle. Also some of the pacing does feel a bit off which lets down the film Guy can really make a good gangster comedy but his more big budget films like Sherlock Holmes and Man From U.N.C.L.E only have glimmers of greatness and are other wise just ok films. Saying this however the films banter and jokes are amazing and all of the supporting characters add to the overall film.

Please go see this film don’t believe what you have heard from other reviews the news that it is a bomb it really is very enjoyable.

I Hope They Got Travel Insurance ( Alien: Covenant – Review)

images (6).jpg

So I saw the new Alien installment, and let me first off say I was really looking forward to this the universe that Riddly Scott has made is an epic sci-fi one, I personally really enjoyed Prometheus as well so was looking forward to seeing how this film joined into that word once again. This film is very good a good balance of story and throwback to the horror elements that the viewers loved from the first alien film.

This film is about a colony mission a pioneer mission from earth that sees a group of humans wanting to set up a new world on different planet. They then get a transmission from what seems to be a human voice but how can this be so far from earth so they decide to go investigate on a different planet, the planet seems fine until disaster strikes and crew die, and an old face returns.

The film is a spectacle as you would come to expect great CGI and space shots but also the violence from the alien is amazing so brutal and scary something to fear once again. Also its very deep with underling philosophical questions we had started in the Prometheus, the idea of creation god and man is very key to this film.  The common trend with films now is the monster really the villain or is it humans.

Stand out performance is from Micheal Fassbender which you would now come to expect, the only man who could make you love him and hate him in the same films ( see the film you will understand what I mean) who also has one of the funniest lines if you ask the MRS #illdothefingering #flutesaredirty The surprise of the film is Danny Mcbride first time ive seen him do something that is comedic and it works so well.

The only downside of the film is the first 40 mins which do drag a bit you don’t really care about the up keep of the ship you want to see the action and the alien you were promised in the trailers.

Overall though this is back to form for Scott like with the Martian you have to see this film and I cant wait for the next installment in the franchise.

Dad Issues and the Return of Tango and Cash. ( Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 – Review)

images (5)

So I went to see Guardians Vol 2 the other night and I was super excited for this film the first film being the biggest surprise in the marvel cinematic universe to date, a very unknown property even to the most hardcore comic fan, this franchise was a gamble but what a gamble and the second installment does not disappoint.

The film kicks off in the same vain as the first showing us peters parents, then jumping to a planet where we see the guardians facing off against a giant squid like monster, but just like the first film did its all in the background with the song Mr blue sky playing we see a baby groot dancing along as chaos goes on around him. Baby Groot where do I begin if marvel/Disney know something well they known how to merchandise a character groot is one of the shinning characters in the film so funny and so cute this is bound to sell toys hand over fist.

The story is pretty much in the vain of empire strikes back, with the whole “i am your father” scenario involved. Peter finally finds his dad he turns out to be Ego the living planet a celestial being that projects a humanoid version of himself, now its the same as empire strikes back in the sense his dad is not all as good as he first seems to be

The character banter is on top form even stronger than the first film with quick wit from star lord and rocket raccoon throughout the film, and Dave Batista as drax is once again so funny with some of the best lines in the whole film “you are ugly” for example when you see it in context you’ll understand.

The action is epic with amazing visuals, the end scene for example with the big fight with the big bad is so good.

The cameos in the this film are amazing from the 2 second one of the Hoff to Sylvester Stallone playing what could be a interesting future character for him. Hence the Reference to tango and cash Kurt Russell Playing ego ( Educate your self lads).

The only issues the film has is that the story is a little dry, its alright it keeps your interest but its nothing special and doesn’t flow as well as the first film did, and secondly what made the first film so memorable is that of the soundtrack, the music made that film even more special this time however the songs are not as good or memorable.

Overall though this is a fantastic edition to the already amazing franchise and that of the MCU you have to go see this film. Like you weren’t already.

Bold Blokes, Fast Cars and a Fuck Tone of Explosions ( Fast And The Furious 8: Fate of the Furious – Review)

furiousposter_0.jpg

Well I just saw Fast 8 today and what a great action film this is the franchise has come along since the first film being a unofficial Point Break Remake, this film franchise has moved away almost completely from the racing of cars this is the action franchise of our generation if it was made in the 1980’s you would be seeing Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in these films.

Fast 8 picks up fairly soon after the events of the 7th installment, we find Dom and Letty on some sort of honeymoon in Cuba life seems to be all well until Dom Comes Across Charlize Theron Character, the team get a job in Berlin all once again is as normal until Dom turns on them. The film takes off from here and the standard paint by numbers formula of these films sets in and that’s not a complaint as the action in these are always edge of the seat experiences.

The film is a must see in the cinema with amazing action set pieces that you see glimpses of in the trailer, the cars in this film are amazing watching a tank and a Lamborghini run side by side is something you wouldn’t see in any other film. The One liners in this film delivered by all the cast are amazing but especially those between the Rocks Character Luke Hobbs and that of Jason Stathams’s Evil/good Deckard/Ian Shaw are so funny its amazing.

The only real down side to the film is sometimes the pacing, these films always fall short when they try to convey drama and the scenes seem to be double the length.

This film however is a great installment to the franchise and breaths new life into it, in-fact this film is a clear changing of the tone for these films and a change to were the future films are heading.
